Poor Chad Wolf

It’s a good thing that there are still a few federal judges appointed by President Clinton.

In the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, based in Brooklyn, The Honorable Nicholas Garaufis ruled yesterday that Donald Trump — as usual — played fast and loose with The Rules when he tried to Ditch the Dreamers.

He made Chad Wolf Acting Secretary of Homeland Security without bothering to get Wolf confirmed by the Senate, and then Wolf issued an order blocking new applications for the program begun by President Obama benefiting the Dreamers (https://www.politico.com/news/2020/11/14/judge-dhs-head-suspend-daca-436527).

But because of Trump’s bigtime screwup, the beneficiaries of Judge Garaufis’ order are the Dreamers themselves — though President Biden will have to tread carefully on this issue unless Georgia Democratic Senate candidates Rev. Ralph Warnock and Jon Ossoff can win their Very Important Runoff in early January and deprive Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of most of his power.

Associate solitary reporter Melissa Smith, who covers Congress for us, is not usually one to employ groaners, but when she read Judge Garaufis’ order, she couldn’t resist saying that Trump, who never follows a rule unless it’s a rule that he made up for his own benefit, had just cried wolf too many times by constantly attacking immigrants.
