Why Trump Gets It Totally Wrong About Antifa

Last Day in the Tumultous Month of May, 2020

Never one to be caught napping, today Donald Trump said he’ll destroy an organization he really knows nothing about: Antifa (Anti-Fascist).

As it becomees increasingly likely that white nationalists might be behind the protests in the Twin Cities over the murder of George Floyd, Trump, Barr & Co. further polarized things, as they always do, by saying the opposite of what sensible Democrats say and do.

Seems that Barr and Trump have vowed to exterminate Antifa, an amorphous radical underground home-grown domestic group which has made lots of waves recently in calling out Trump’s inherent Fascism.

But mercifully, it turns out that Trump and Barr have no constitutional authority to do anything of the sort, because Antifa is an American domestic — not a foreign — organization, and there is no existing legal authority to label a wholly domestic group in the same way our feds currently designate foreign terrorist organizations (https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/31/politics/trump-antifa-protests/index.html).

Not only that, Trump doesn’t even have the the backing of his own base (https://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2020/05/31/jake-tapper-opener-trump-george-floyd-protests-sotu-vpx.cnn/video/playlists/this-week-in-politics/).

One of our very best legal minds, associate solitary reporter Larry Theis, just texted us to say that even Trump-appointed federal judges would say that Trump can’t go after a domestic political group in the same way that Barr thinks he can.
