On His Way to Mexico, Trump Meets with McCain

PHOENIX — Donald Trump is on his way to Mexico City to meet with Mexico’s president, Enrique Peña Nieto. Yesterday’s announcement was greeted with rage in Mexico. One wag has suggested that Trump would not be making the trip unless Mexico had agreed ahead of time to pay for it.

Conveniently enough, after Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) won his primary yesterday over a far right opponent, Trump stopped here in Phoenix to meet with McCain. An incredulous solitary reporter observed.

Trump said last year that McCain is not a war hero because he was captured by the North Vietnamese. He has never apologized for that remark.

McCain also denounced Trump for criticizing the Muslim parents of a fallen American soldier. But McCain has endorsed Trump’s presidential campaign because Trump won the nomination.

As the solitary reporter watched, Trump told McCain, “John, I need you to go with me to my meeting with Peña Nieto. It’ll be a great way to unify our party.”

Sen. McCain’s response cannot be printed here.
