WASHINGTON — The Orlando massacre was only six days ago, and the Senate’s most moderate Republican, Susan Collins of Maine, is developing a compromise measure that would prevent some terrorism suspects from buying weapons.
But that doesn’t sit well with the NRA’s top gunslinger, Wayne LaPierre.
As a solitary reporter observed two of the most powerful men in Washington, LaPierre brashed himself into McConnell’s office earlier today after LaPierre read today’s New York Times article about Sen. Collins’ proposal.
“The Republican Party has no room for people who want to curtail the use of guns,” LaPierre said.
“I’ll talk with Susan,” McConnell replied.
Expect Sen. Collins’ measure to get nowhere.
