ON THE GOP PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN TRAIL – Yesterday, in Kentucky, as Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis was released from jail, it was Republican presidential candidate The Rev. Mike Huckabee, a Southern Baptist preacher, who was at her side, sharing her jubilation.
As a solitary reporter looked on, Huckabee then said, “I unequivocally support freedom of religious conscience.”
“By refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, Kim is a great example of a conscientious objector.”
“Which is why I am letting all Republican voters know right now that when I win the presidential nominating contest, Kim will be my running mate.”
This morning, at a rally against President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran at the United States Capitol organized by presidential candidate and Senator Ted Cruz (TP-Texas), Donald Trump, leading in the Republican polls, did the same thing: he told the raucous crowd, and our associate solitary reporter, Lewis Thompson, that Cruz will be his vice president.
