WASHINGTON — Congressman Mike McCarthy — until now the presumptive heir to John Boehner — has run away from his hyper-fractious House Republican Caucus and has become a Democrat. These inglorious proceedings were observed by a solitary reporter.
Earlier this week, the California Congressman proudly told Fox News that the purpose of the Benghazi Special Committee was to bring Hillary’s polling numbers down. But House rules prohibit any House Committee from conducting an investigation for political purposes. So the following day, after fierce attacks against him by fellow GOP Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), and others, McCarthy was forced to claim that he never intended for the Benghazi Committee to be in the least political.
The solitary reporter watched with incredulity as McCarthy fled into the arms of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who promptly collapsed and had to be resuscitated by Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving.
