REID TO BOEHNER: BRING BACK HUAC

WASHINGTON — After the Koch Brothers’ SuperPAC, Americans for Prosperity, managed single-handedly to defeat Democrat Alex Sink in her effort to win a special election on Tuesday to Congress from Florida, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid lashed out at the Koch Brothers, calling them un-American (http://www.politico.com/story/2014/03/harry-reid-anti-koch-brothers-104623.html?hp=f3).

Today, as chronicled by a solitary reporter, Reid went one step further: he strode to the Speaker’s chair and demanded that John Boehner reinstitute the reviled House Un-American Activities Committee, which investigated peaceful folks such as Humphrey Bogart and countless others during this country’s period of anti-Communist hysteria. (HUAC’s name was changed in 1969 to the House Committee on Internal Security, and in 1975 its functions were transferred to the House Judiciary Committee.)

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, noting that Boehner would never bite the hand that feeds him, dismissed Reid’s caper as a “very silly effort to emulate the late, great Humphrey Bogart."
